Google and OnStar struck a deal that will permit OnStar users to leverage Google Maps and transmit destinations to the navigation system in their vehicles. Other features of this system include the capability to accept emails and text messages, as well as displaying useful data such as gas mileage evaluation and when applicable, remaining battery life.
People will start using this application for convenience, a different purpose than what has been the typical use case for OnStar. This new connectivity feature will provide advantages such as setting the car’s interior temperature ahead of time and a grid-friendly program for charging.
By the end of the month Onstar eNav, which is turn-by-turn navigation, will become accessible. Drivers will have knowledge of the destinations whenever they desire and get immediate directions from OnStar as needed. In the automotive market turn-by turn navigation is a feature few have had the opportunity to try out, GM aims to change this with this integration.
According to Onstar Vice President, eNav is an ideal solution for many who are often using Google Maps for planning their trips before leaving the house, this just completes the process as it should. In addition, eNav increases safety behind the wheel by limiting the distractions for drivers. An option of pushing the blue Onstar button in order to communicate to a live advisor will be the final step in getting as much assistance as needed to reach a destination.
The Google Maps integration will be offered on all General Motors vehicle that are turn-by-turn capable and will incorporate Onstar Destination Download to forward locations directly to the navigation system’s screen. For the year 2011, Onstar Connection Service is standard on all OnStar outfitted GM vehicles.

60daysGM is so confident that they’re willing to take all the risk off of customers just to get them to give a GM car a try. “We think if consumers give us a fair chance and look at the facts on the things that matter most to them, like design, fuel economy, warranty and safety, our vehicles are the best choices – that’s what makes an offer like this possible,” Lutz says.
That’s right folks, the hugely popular C.A.R.S. program will be ending on Monday August 24th. The program has been so successful, car dealership busy once again and people buying more fuel efficient vehicles, that the program is running out of money. This weekend will be the last weekend to shop for a vehicle and receive up to $4500 from the government. Hurry in before the program ends.
Thats just what GM announced today with its Volt electric car which is a combination of electric motor and battery pack, rechargeable with a standard home outlet, as well as a small internal combustion engine. What number did they present to the public? How about 230 mpg! This, if confirmed by the EPA, would blow the Toyota Prius out of the water by over 5 times. If EPA results confirm this 3 digit fuel efficient vehicle and GM can promise on its delivery then there may be many new customers re-evaluating the American auto maker. Gm better ramp up on production if these numbers hold true, because the Chevrolet Volt will be the new icon of going Green!
