Cadillac’s Luxury Crossover Alternative Design, craftsmanship and performance in the 2010 SRX.
“Tall and lean” and “fresh and bold” are just some of the phrases being bandied about when talk turns to the 2010 Cadillac SRX. The SRX crossover features not only a completely new design, but also more efficient, high technology engine options, a wide stance, advanced electronics and state-of-the-art safety features.
The bold new look of the 2010 SRX features a multi-piece shield and grille, the vertical headlamps Cadillac is known for and sweeping lines that give it the feeling of motion even when parked. Cadillac’s famous craftsmanship is highlighted by the hand-cut and hand-sewn coverings on an instrument panel that features a popup navigation screen with 3D imaging and ambient lighting details. Adaptive forward lighting swivels the headlamps in sync with the steering. Even the scripted Cadillac logos in the front door sill plates light up when the doors are opened.
A choice of two high-tech six-cylinder engines is offered – a 3.0-liter direct-injected V6 as standard and a 2.8-liter turbocharged V6 as an option. Strong performance typical of larger-displacement engines is produced in both, and direct injection reduces hydrocarbon emissions by 25 percent. The 3.0-liter is a smaller-displacement version of the 3.6-liter direct injection engine found in the CTS sport sedan, and it delivers an impressive 260 hp. A Hydra-Matic 6T70 electronically controlled six-speed transmission that lowers the engine’s rpms at constant highway speeds, coupled with a driver-selectable “eco-mode” that alters transmission shift points and a manual shift control, which provides for greater driver interaction, all contribute to help save fuel while still providing nimble handling and up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity.
No safety details were overlooked when putting the SRX together. The AWD system features an electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD) distributing torque as needed, not only from front to rear, but also along the rear axle, giving the driver more control and greater confidence in handling. The suspension includes a real-time damping system that adjusts shocks to respond to all types of road conditions. A strong body structure featuring high-strength steel in the fully enclosed rocker panels is part of an overall design to protect occupants before, during and after a collision. In addition, there is a full complement of head-curtain side airbags, standard front seat-mounted pelvic/thorax side airbags, trailer stability assist and of course, OnStar.
Cadillac is not Cadillac without luxurious amenities. Bluetooth is standard as are OnStar’s turn-by-turn navigation service, a center stack that houses controls for climate and audio systems, a power liftgate with adjustable height settings, an integrated hard disc drive for audio storage and a dual-screen rear entertainment system, all in a comfortable setting with generous seating room for five and ample cargo space.
With a base price of $41,325 (MSRP), the 2010 Cadillac SRX encompasses craftsmanship and luxury, state-of-the-art safety and bold new exterior design.
